Thyme

Thyme (Thymus vulgaris L.) is a raw material the majority of which is cultivated in the Lubelskie voivodeship, known around the world for being the main producer of this herb. Thyme is a Mediterranean herb with dietary, medicinal, and ornamental uses. It is a perennial aromatic bush of the mint family. Thyme can be grown at home or collected from nature. Leaves and floral summits must be collected in spring. They should be dried in the shade and kept in a well-closed container.

The flowers, leaves, and oil of thyme have been used to treat a range of symptoms and complaints. Thyme is thought to have antibacterial, insecticidal, and possibly antifungal properties. People used thyme throughout history for embalming and to protect from the Black Death. Traditionally, thyme has been used for the treatment of infectious diseases, especially those that affect the respiratory system. It can also be used in the case of migraines and headaches, food poisoning and rheumatic diseases. The possible properties of thyme against certain cancers, such as colon, breast and prostate cancer, are being investigated. In addition, introducing this herb into the diet help alleviate some adverse effects of radiation therapy and chemotherapy, such as mucositis.
